2015 SPRING FASHION SHOW

As a child, I perceived myself in Korean transitional clothes referred to as Hanbok. I was not aware of the beauty exemplified by this particular classical design, but I marveled at how much of it was handmade. I draw inspiration for this project from the hanbok and particularly from Queen Min, who was a strong woman. Therefore, the main theme of this project is to capture a woman’s inherent tendencies, but again reflect the strengths that she embodies. In this particular project, I used a different approach in creating the silhouette as I placed the hanbok in a flat position and did my draping and silhouette creation in this position. I got the first skirt design from this posture. Another inspiration that I draw from hanbok in this project is the incorporation of jewelry in my design, i.e. sewing jewelry into the garments. This was a key aspect of the fashion show design project because it not only brings out a new design personality, but also sees the integration of traditional and contemporary design cultures. Before taking on the fashion show work I had the responsibility of coming up with new designs that will be used by models for marketing, I drew the inspiration of this project from my native country, Korea. I had a profound desire to establish ways that can be used to make the hanbok better. The name ‘Jergory’ placed on top of the hanbok provided with a foundation for my ain silhouette and ensured that I incorporate a significant part of Korean classical fashion in the project
